Doris Lessing: In ‘t Bijzonder Katten (128p.)
Doris Lessing impressed me with her The Golden Notebook, and with her cool demeanor upon being told she had won the (2007) Nobel Prize for Literature (“This has been going on for 30 years. I’ve won all the prizes in Europe, every bloody one, so I’m delighted to win them all. It’s a royal flush.”). And I knew she had written about (her) cats.
Particularly Cats is the original title, and for once I deviated from my strict rule of reading everything published in English in English, but I unexpectedly stumbled upon this nice (Dutch) copy here in Gent (Belgium), in the Oxfam bookstore of all places.
For the lovers of Lessing and/or cats – I’m both.
(Both Kymer, a most charismatic and adventurous little grey tabby, and Shasta, a very warm and playful tortoise shell, turn seven in September.)
