Right on, Mo. This morning I told the lady I felt like going up to Chalet Reynard by car, just to eat something there, do nothing, and watch the other riders (specifically the unspeakable suffering on their faces). Monday's effort is catching up with me - big efforts always let themselves be felt two days after, rather than one. But don't underestimate the lure of the mountain. It must be ridden!

I believe you are underestimating yourself: 'unless you're young, talented, or well-trained. I'm neither'
You are young at heart and definitely a very talented bike rider both on the road and on the mtb, but not always that well trained ... you'll kick some ass in Mallorca, that's for sure. I already petty the other riders ...

I must say I've done over 1000 kilometers already. (I'm a bit late with this entry.) She's great - very snappy, very precise. I only struggled on a few cobblestone sections out of the Tour of Flanders (I must say I had too much pressure in the tires that day), but then everybody does anyhow.

For a long time the standard 'double' crankset to be sold here in Belgium was a 53/39 (at least on the racier road bikes), with 11-25 cassettes in the back. Imagine you were going on vacation to France and you decide to climb the Izoard: 39-25 will be very tough unless you're young, talented, or well-trained. I'm neither. In fact, this actually happened to me on the Izoard. I was already using 39-25 on the run-in! Hence my choice for the mid-compact in front. My girlfriend actually has a compact proper: 50-34.

That's a sexy looking bike! Have you been on it yet? How does she ride?

I was told that the correct number of bikes a person should have, is N+1, with N being the number that person currently has...

But what's wrong with a standard crankset?
